I previously had a 6 year career at Bally's Total Fitness. Like many other companies that I have worked for, after I left, Bally's fell apart. LOL, just kidding, they did shut down, but not because I left. I continued my fitness work with clients up in Breckenridge for a couple of years after that. More recently, as an older man in my 70's, I became concerned about my own health and longevity. I have been relatively healthy and fit for most of my life, although not as consistently as I feel I need to now apply to my lifestyle, which includes stretching, muscle maintenance, balance, daily cardio, a mostly plant based diet, and restorative sleep. That is my main goal in turning my garage into a gym. I renewed my Personal Fitness Certification and added 5 more certifications. I've set up a personal fitness training business, primarily, to help other seniors achieve or maintain better health and fitness; either one on one in my gym, or remotely through GoToMeeting or FaceTime, and likely adding Zoom. The first and sometimes into the second session is all about questionnaires, assessments and lots of information gathering. My training style is very conservative and cautious, starting with stretching to address shortened and elongated muscles, which for many seniors, not used to exercising, becomes a muscle maintenance movement. As we work to lengthen shortened, overworked muscles, and to shorten elongated, underworked muscles, and once we get them closer to their preferred length, we can start to build and strengthen them with muscle maintenance/building exercises. We would start with 1 and 2 lb weights and slowly and safely increase the weights. Balance exercises are also very important, for people at all ages. National health guidelines call for 150 minutes of cardio exercise every week, breaking it down to 5 thirty minute cardio sessions like plain, normal walking, or 75 minutes of more intense cardio, such as running or swimming. Bike rides can be moderate or intense, and fun. Any activity where constant motion is exerted by our bodies, counts as cardio. I am willing to invest my time for up to 3 sessions at no charge in order to show prospective clients the value that I can offer, and to begin to build a relationship of trust and accountability.
